Cooling of Electronic Equipment |
Although natural convection is characterized by lower surface heat fluxes - i.e. heat transfer coefficients - compared to forced convection or immersion boiling, its use is rather common in electronics cooling. In particular, its inherent simplicity, reliability and stability, makes it the ideal solution for many low-end applications, like consumer electronics, low-end computer packages, electronic test equipment and communications switching devices.
We have studied the basic configuration of a two-dimensional channel, with either uniform temperature or uniform heat generation, in a closed cavity. Such configuration is relevant to vertical cabinets of in-line arrays of printed circuit boards.
